..."Song to the Apukuna" is a 50-minute meditative song-prayer and call in honour of the sacred apu (mountain) spirits. Sung/chanted continuously and ceremonially in Quechua & English and played entirely on a powerful 27-inch qilaut wind drum...

This ceremonial movement of chant & drum opens with a 2-minute "call" in spoken word and rattle which opens "sacred space" by weaver, where, immediately following the meditational chanting and drumming gently proceeds... "Apu" in Quechua means "mountain spirit" - a sacred being that not only gives presence to the physical mountain but offers dialogue with a "paqo" (one who walks a spiritual path) who is in service to that apu... and one can be in service to more than one apu... apus are the highest level of nature energy and are the most important spiritual guides within the Andean shamanic system... "humpui, humpuay" loosely translated means, "come to me, come to me"...

The original lyrics come from the Q'ero (Quechua) Shamanic Healing tradition of the high Andes in Peru... and the song/chant is given during the Altomesayok rites of passage in the North direction of the Inka Medicine Wheel... i was guided to write a new melody that would connect those of us in this sacred work deeper meaning with a slower meditative melody versus the original fast-paced march melody... which would assist us to have "more time" to connect with each apu mountain spirit within the total song itself...

"The vision and sourcing of "song to the apukuna" comes from a very deep place from within our blessed earth mother, Pachamama, the Apu mountain spirits and the Q'ero mountain people of Peru - the last Inca... this is their song... a teaching and a gift... it is their call to us to remember who we truly are... to dream our becoming into being... to return to Ayni & once again walk in balance with all... within, around, above & below... "

Note: This movement of music can be used as ceremonial music for the ceremony of rites of passage (Rites of the Altomesayok - Wisdomkeeper's Rites) given during the North Direction of the Inca (Inka) Medicine Wheel or the Munay-Ki rites ceremony as taught through the Four Winds Society and Alberto Villoldo, Phd.

carol weaver is a multi-faceted musician, drummer/singer-songwriter, illustrator and graphic design artist residing in Vancouver BC Canada. She holds a third-level degree in the healing art of Reiki & has been initiated into the shamanic lineage of the Q'ero nation in Peru through the Four Winds Society and carries a mesa... She has studied Core Shamanism with the Foundation of Shamanic Studies and Healing the Lightbody School also through the Four Winds.

weaver continues the ongoing study of her own Celtic heritage, shamanic healing traditions and it’s art and is honoured to carry and care-take a powerful Qilaut wind drum.

"i am honoured to be called to the path of healing in partnership with our brothers & sisters and our blessed pachamama, mother earth. when i connect to the divine spirit within myself, something special happens... if i just allow it. i believe that we all have the innate ability to tap into a creative force that is a part of all of us, a part of everything.

if we just stop, listen & recognize these special forces of nature, that "they" are always calling us... waiting for us and beckoning us to respond with them, to co-create together & return as one — then magic & miracles can & do happen."
