Album Notes

In the last three years alone he’s driven 80,000 miles to play in more than 50 cities in 20 states. When you figure in the airplanes and rental cars, it adds up to a lot of scenery and a lot of songs.

For Craig Carothers, the journey, and the songs, began in the Pacific Northwest. Craig’s parents were both music teachers. Around the house, sounds ranged from Brubeck to Mancini; Victor Borgé to Jonathan Winters. Later influences included Motown, Joni Mitchell, Tom Lehrer, and The Beatles.
Venues were plentiful around his home in Portland, Oregon, and Craig spent more than 20 years playing almost every night of the week inside a forty-block radius.

During that time, he toured with or opened for a wide variety of acts: Mose Allison, Karla Bonnoff, Jonatha Brooke, Rosanne Cash, Bruce Cockburn, Paula Cole, Robert Cray, Catie Curtis, Crash Test Dummies, Donovan, Peter Himmelman, John Hiatt, Leo Kottke, Patty Larkin, Michael McDonald, Dennis Miller, Anne Murray, Danny O'Keefe, Leroy Parnell, Paula Poundstone, Boz Skaggs, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Richard Thompson, Jethro Tull, Romeo Void, Loudon Wainwright III, Tim Weisberg, David Wilcox, Warren Zevon, and many others.

Things changed in 1995, when country music star Trisha Yearwood recorded Craig’s song “Little Hercules.” He hung a gold record on the wall and started traveling to Nashville on a regular basis.

A publishing deal followed, and over the next five years his travels produced new performance opportunities as well. Soon, he had regular gigs in Nashville, Birmingham, Atlanta, Houston, and Little Rock.

In 2000 he made Nashville his home. Trips back to the west coast started to include stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Phoenix, and Salt Lake.

In recent years Craig’s songs have been recorded by artists including: Kathy Matea, Lorrie Morgan, Sons Of The Desert, Kate Markowitz, Andrea Zonn, Steve Seskin, Berkley Hart, and Peter, Paul and Mary.

REVIEWS

Thought he was Freddy Fender...
author: Scott K.
F.F., just based on the cover of an old vinyl album I found at E.M. (Guess I can't use this joke on him now...) This is like my third copy of ACOUSTIC SET, because I wear them out or never get them back from people I loan them to. I love Craig and Tim (and Gary!) (and Jim). MY WAY OF THINKING, JUST ANOTHER CHECK, NO GOIN'BACK, and especially NOTHING BUT TIME...this stuff is classic. Craig's got the accessibility, the warmth, the timbre of his voice, the HUMANITY, the gravitas, of the best of the best. I've always been partial to the "serious" songs, but I respect him for not wanting to bum people out too often. His light-hearted material is truly clever and fun. And Tim Ellis is one of the best guitar players I've ever heard. Seriously. Taste. Flash. The whole enchilada. Awesome. I'm sorry Craig never agreed to change the lyrics of his song to accomodate my getting back together with an ex, but I'm still buying the CDs. And if you can listen to NOTHING BUT TIME and not tear up, check yourself for a pulse. Craig and Tim, YOU ROCK !!!!!!!!!!

Nobody does it better.
author: Doug Fitch - CATIII Music Publishing (BMI)
This CD is no exception to the rule that Craig is the best there is. Not only is he a master songwriter, but also a master of the acoustic guitar and voice. Get all 6 of his CD's and you'll be glad you did. You will never get tired of the magic he makes. He's also one of the most giving of his time and talents to help others. This CD gets a 10.

A must have for the acoustic singer song writer fan
author: Ryan B.
This CD is a must have for the singer/songwriter fan. It is filled with just the right blend of heart felt and humor. Just when it seems like it is getting really serious there is a light song to make you laugh such as Mexican Cafe and my personal favorite the hidden track at the end, Too Many Holes in Her Head. There are some deeply touching songs such as Nothing But Time and the amazingly poignant and honest To My Way of Thinkin'. As it says on his website, Craig has a voice that should be famous and here backed beautifully by the talented Tim Ellis on acoustic guitar he has made an extroadinary album. This cd has become one of my favorites. It is singing/songwriting at is bare essentials there are no gimmics here just quality lyrics and music.
