Album Notes

Christmas at the Carousel - thirteen happy holiday tunes from the mighty Wurlitzer Organ at Seabreeze Park, on the shores of Lake Ontario in Rochester, NY.
Third in the series of carousel band organ
recordings from Seabreeze, Carousel Christmas is probably the most unusual Christmas music available anywhere. Perfect for the serious audiophile or Christmas music collector, these songs from the carousel are of the same
excellent clarity and sound quality as Carousel Breezes and Carousel Breezes Volume II.

The lovely cover painting of a Christmas Carousel horse with gold stars flying from red and green ribbons is another Diane Luke original. Special band organ rolls were acquired by Merrick Price for this recording project, and in the cool early morning hours of a hot July day, we were at the carousel - listening to and recording the music of Christmas.

Here's what one reviewer had to say:
As I sat listening to Carousel Christmas, my mind took a flight of fancy as it does with few other Christmas CDs. With every record I receive, I learn a bit more about Christmas and about music. This, though, is the most intriguing music I have heard all season long. The music has a childlike quality to it that's fun to hear. I was apprehensive that it might be a little over the top, but this CD gets the mood just right.

I believe you can imagine this music if ever you rode the carousel and heard the sound of the mechanical Wurlitzer pipe organ. That is exactly what this music is--Christmas music played beautifully by a wonderful old Wurlitzer Band Organ Style 165. A wonderful concept for a unique Christmas album, it is beautifully executed, too.

The makers of this CD have selected a set of Christmas songs which willingly yield their flavor to the Wurlitzer. One of my favorites in this style is Up on the Housetop. The singing quality of the melody line strikes a fine balance with the other instrumental voices on this number. Jolly Old St. Nick features some beautiful polyphonic passages. I thought I recognized Suzy Snowflake when I heard it, but it was one of those unexpected songs that make a record unique, as if this one weren't pretty unique already.

Clearly, this organ was special to the people who made this record. For them to have conceived and carried out this offering tells me that. And in the end it is their love for this music that shines through the recording, making it an essential choice.

Small children will wear this one out!

It's been a decade or two since I saw (and bought) my first Christmas carousel music box as a decoration. So it seemed logical that someday, when people caught the interest in genuine carousel music, someone would produce a Christmas album for the Wurlitzer or similar band organ. The Seabreeze Park production certainly fits the bill for lovers of both Christmas and carousel music. The songs were well-chosen and scripted. Having ridden a number of merry-go-rounds in my lifetime, I thoroughly enjoy this album and recommend it "for kids from 1 to 92,) as Mel Torme's popular Christmas Song says so well. And, oh yes, I'll never hear or see another Christmas carousel decoration the same way again.

CD is everything I had hoped for and more. I enjoy Christmas music all the time. My first job as a teenager was running a carousel and the Wurlitzer organ always played. My future husband is also loves the Wurlitizer organ music.

CD arrived perfectly and am enjoying Wurlitzer organ music now even though christmas is 2 months away. Will be purchasing other Wurlitzer organ CD's now that I have found them. Back in the 60's my first job was operating the carosel near my home and it had a Wurlitzer organ. can't get enough of this music. My future hubby feels the same way.
