Album Notes

My old friend Beaver Nelson introduced me to Adam Carroll's songs about ten years ago when we were doing a lot of travelling together. Shortly after that I was lucky to do a few tours with the both of them (and our pal Steve Poltz) in a songwriter in the round situation. Since then I've always jumped at the chance to play with Adam.

His songs seem to move me more every time I hear them. I'm sitting here now listening to the final mixes of this new recording. The journey that takes place between "Home Again" and "Highway Prayer" is a fantastic, truthful and inspiring one. When I hear lines like "Summertimes I've stood underneath the beer joint signs, even old Odysseus got bored from time to time" and "You're coming home, home again, you can tell 'em all where you've been", I feel the same excitement and call of adventure that makes me want to hit the road anytime I'm lucky enough to be asked.

It's an honor to play music with people like Adam. He writes with dignity about the people and places he's seen on his journey, which of course is a never ending quest. We're lucky when people like him light the path a little brighter. I hope Adam will ask me to tour this record with him and I hope we'll see you out there.
