FUN FACTS FROM THE ARTIST:
* I only recorded instrumentation I could perform live with my two hands using 1 Korg synth, 1 Korg drum machine, and 1 Casio digital piano. Most of the synths you hear I created from scratch using basic waveforms and modulating them. I believe in using limitations to promote creativity, so I did not go back and layer music tracks. Vocally, it's a different story. I only have one voice, but you'll notice lots of vocal tracks!
* I wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered this entire album alone at home.
* I began writing songs for this album in January 2011, and over the course of the next 13 months, I recorded 24 tracks. Only 11 made the final cut. My patience and selectiveness resulted in a much more mature album with a unified feel and theme.
* Other album titles I thought about using: Timekill, Eternity Suit, Plasticized, George Foreman Buys My Groceries (I might have made that one up just now). I chose the title Food For Thought Police after I had all the songs recorded and selected. I felt the title best encompassed the overall theme while utilizing wordplay at the same time. Lyrically, this record provides "food for thought" for just about anyone, but many of the lyrics throughout the record also channel frustration toward the "establishment" or the "powers that be." It's nothing too political, just common frustrations that many of us share.
* I have 16 years of classical piano training from kindergarten through college, and I have been writing and recording original music since 5th grade. I guess technically I wrote some songs in kindergarten, but the real coherent stuff started in 5th grade. I ditched the word "hobby" a long time ago and switched to "addiction." It describes my relationship with music much more accurately.
* Food For Thought Police was my first attempt at any genre of electronic music other than hip hop. The album spans multiple genres, but dubstep seems to be the common theme, probably because of my history producing hip hop. I have a new respect for electronic music producers. Patience ran thin many times while making these beats and writing lyrics to match, and I think that frustration seeps through into the music, in a good way.
* I can honestly say that this album was the first music I made for me and for me only. If others can relate to a song or even a fragment of a song, that's an added bonus for which I'm grateful.
* No matter what you listen to, show your music some respect and listen on good speakers every once in awhile. Don't let smartphones, laptops, and earbuds become the norm! That's like watching a Blu-ray on a black-and-white tube TV...craziness!
