Album Notes

This mainly acoustic EP was conceived and started immediately following the recording of Per Ardua Ad Astra; CP's debut album. For this project Pete and Sam enlisted the help of ex Edies Playpen bass player; Ted Patterson. Material was contributed by all three and by late October, six songs had been developed, including a cover of the Peter Gabriel classic: "Here Comes The Flood". Ted's house in rural Kenilworth, 100 kilometres north of Brisbane was converted into a temporary studio, in which the boys recorded the bulk of the material over an extended long weekend. In January 2010, Mark Whitmore joined Cartoon Physics as a permanent member and he contributed some final overdubs on the bass. Mark's daughter; Sarah also contributed cello parts for two songs.

The decision to record these songs acoustically was based on the idea that a great song will stand up well without the bells and whistles of a full rock arrangement. Accordingly, none of these songs include electric guitar, drums or electronic keyboards (a wind-driven organ can be heard on "..Petrol Engine"). The principal instruments in all these recordings are acoustic guitar, bass and voice. This minimalist approach was a challenge for the band, presenting higher demands on performance, but the freshness and honesty of the resulting recordings justifies the approach.
