Album Notes

Cat Dail is a singer/ songwriter/ guitarist who lives some of the time in New York City and some of the time in Chesterfield, NH. "Choice" is Cat's first solo release since her successful 90s band, NYC faves, distant cousins. On "Choice" Cat takes on folk, funk, rock, rumba, country, mariachi and pop styles that fuse into something extra fresh and groovy. The songwriting focuses on characters both hilarious and poignant. Cat has won a ton of awards (Independent Music Awards, Billboard Song Contest, and many others) for music and for lyrics. The band has been counted by Musician Magazine as one of the best unsigned acts in the country. Guitarist Joel Newton gives especially juicy performances. Rhythm section Jim Whitney (acoustic and elec bass) and drummer Bruce Martin have a crazy lock that drives the thang. Melodic and sonic highlights come from Joe "Mama" Holland on harmonica, from Tom "Bones" Malone (of the Blues Brothers!) and from Aaron Whitby's keys, among other super-talented musicians who sit in with the band on the road. Brings back the days when I shifted away from mainstream rock and started getting into the melodic sounds of Lush, Madder Rose, Tanya Donelly, etc.....it strikes a nerve and tugs at your heartstrings....if they're superconnected, then that's an extra-added plus.
