On the "Cash Money" CD, Catfish Willie is like a split personality. On one hand they are a Roots Rock/Blues powerhouse and then they turn right around into kind of a Rockabilly/Alt Country band. Somehow it fits together in an (earlier) Rolling Stones kind of way and sounds totally natural.
The guitar playing is phenominal and draws comparisons to Alvin Lee, Michael Bloomfield, Peter Green and that ilk. Equally, vintage equipement snobs will be in heaven when hearing the collection of classic amplifiers expertly recorded in their most raw state.
Catfish Willie is one-of-a-kind and doesn't sound too much like anybody else. The style is a hybrid but at times the band has been compared to Ten Years After, The Band, Johnny Winter, Rev. Horton Heat, Govt. Mule, Black Oak Arkansas, Son Seals, blues era Fleetwood Mac, CCR, James Gang, John Mayall, Luther Allison and RL Burnside.
WHO IS CATFISH WILLIE?
He's the gifted singer and guitarist who has shared stages with many Blues notables - people such as Son Seals, Buddy Guy and Otis Rush and, in the rock world, acts such as ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers Band and The Black Crowes, to name just a few.
As a vocalist, his voice is pure authentic Blues - a big-belly, urban, "been there" taste of '50's Southside Chicago! As a guitarist he controls the dynamics of the band - from gentle grooves that you strain to hear to full-on "old school" inferno... and every spot in between.
