Catherine Moon is a songwriter that bends traditions and creates music intuitively. As a self-taught guitarist with a background of classical and jazz vocal training, Moon has cultivated a style of song writing that is striking and diverse. She combines a moody guitar sound with poetic lyrics, sung in a voice overflowing with raw emotion and sensuality.

Moon's eclectic style reflects her wide range of influences and musical tastes. Free-lance music critic Joe Del Priore states, "she slides among genres as nimbly as a 14-year-old on a skateboard changes direction...Moon's versatility is immense, her impact tactile, her moods and influences far flung."

Catherine Moon studied voice at Ithaca College in New York State. Upon graduating, Moon relocated to Austin, Texas, where she devoted three years to learning to play guitar and writing music. She made her debut as a solo artist at Houston's Westheimer Arts Festival in October, 1992, but it was in the folk venues of Austin's 6th Street area where Moon polished her craft as a songwriter. At the onset of 1994, she moved back to the East Coast, to New Brunswick, NJ, and her music really began to take off. May of 1995, Catherine Moon released her debut CD, WINTER SLEEP, on her own Incantation Records. Winter Sleep received excellent reviews in The Aquarian, Jersey Beat, The Musician's Exchange, and New York's New Review of Records (to name a few). The CD also received a great deal of airplay across the Northeast on college and public radio. Other accomplishments include opening for Ani DiFranco in February of 1995, and being one of six song-writing acts (out of 100 applicants) chosen to play the New Folk Showcase at 1995's NJ Folk Festival. Moon is also the founder of the New Jersey based SHEE Collective, an organization of women songwriters, poets, and performance artists. The SHEE Collective just released their first compilation CD which is also available through CD BABY.
