Album Notes

Recorded at Winterwood Recording Studios in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, this album of Catherine Reed's has a most interesting song selection, covers of country, soul, and rock 'n' roll hits done in a decidedly folk fashion, quite well done at that. This is Reed's third album but only the second I have heard and I liked the other one so much that it was with excitement and anticipation that I opened this one and slung it into the machine. I was not disappointed. She covers some of my favorite songs by some of my favorite songwriters - it was a real treat. It's just her and her guitar, or her piano, calm and graceful, giving new meaning to a comprehensive collection of old songs. She shares production credits with Eric Schabacker, who did the mix and master. You can email her at catherine@juno.com or write her at P. O. Box 72 in Beaver (72613) and access the studio's web page at www.winterwoodstudios.com. The liner notes list nineteen tracks, but there is a bonus twentieth ("Women Be Wise") to make for over an hour's worth of really good musical entertainment. -Doug Treadway (Nightflying Magazine)

I caught a set by Catherine while I was on vacation in Eureka Springs & just had to have this album which covers most of the songs she sang that evening, plus several more. The lovely simple unadorned guitar accompaniment & Catherines crystal clear voice really do prove "less is more". Top of my pops. RFC>

Some great acoustic covers
author: Martin Read
Pick up the CD, put your feet up and listen to some refreshing, honest vocal/acoustic guitar performances. Once you get past your doubts that the lyrics to Wonderful Tonight and The Boxer might not work so well being sung by a woman you will be captivated by what can be done to a song with relatively simple tools. Moondance fizzes, Desperado brings out the longing and the title track is outstanding. Furthermore You Belong To Me is infinitely more listenable than Catherine Irwin's recent release. However it is Oh Susanna (a song I've hated ever since I received, as a child, the kiddie record player with the red discs of Nursery Hits- Turkey in the Straw, Yankie Doodle etc. cringe cringe) that really got me to sit up. How can you re-appraise a song you've dismissed for so long as a teeth-gritter ? This is a fine ballad in Reed's hands and literally had me reaching for the repeat button to confirm it really was the same darned song! Overall the CD may not quite be consistently strong enough to be a record of the year but it made a big impression just the same.
