Album Notes

Cathie has a voice that quivers with Jazz and quakes with Soul. Her percussive vocal styling has been adequately called a complementary throwback of the great scat masters of the jazz era. Her lyrics are the product of an analytical mind, a soft heart and a sharp Sicilian tongue. Cathie has been performing her original music since 1999. She has been seen all around NYC at places like the Blue Note, Sidewalk Cafe, B3 Lounge, Le Bar Bat, the Lizard Lounge, The Lions Den, Baby Jupiter, Sway, and has been known to perform at the Munchaba Lounge on a regular basis. Outside the metro area, shes taken her folk/funk style to the four corners of the United States. From Fredonia, NY to Jacksonville, FL, from the streets of New Orleans to Santa Monica, CA and has reached as far as the mountains of Alaska.

Four Tides of the Clearview--A True Original
author: Justin

Cathie Russo's Four Tides of the Clearview is the work of an artist who has a savvy ear for rhythm, color, and texture. Judging from these four tracks, Russo has navigated through rock, r&b, jazz, and folk influences and synthesized them to create something totally her own. Expertly produced and recorded, and backed by a crack crew of professional musicians possessing serious chops, Cathie Russo's voice vibrates throughout with energy and passion. Emotionally honest without being cloying or self-indulgent, Russo's lyrics are enigmatic and clever while also being sharp and accessible. All in all, this is an auspicious harbinger of things to come from a true original.

Mmmmmm Good.

New York is red hot with this little four track collage comin' at ya' straight from the NYC underground. This ain't no sissy polished turd from the boys of A & R lore. This is what music is meant to be - a collaborate initiative from some stellar musicians, a standup professor of faders and knobs, Mr. Rob Fillmore, and a diamond in the rough (and let's hope she stays that way), Ms. Cathie Russo. With just four fast and furious tracks, she sends you through a kaleidoscope of emotions and musical stylings. Now I can't give all praise, it just wouldn't be a honest critic. If anything, this is a stepping stone for greater heights, merely an acid test of what the girl can do. I'll be waiting for the day when the full thematic disc has arrived.
