Music Therapist and Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Produces
CD for Children To Help Build Their Social Skills

(Charlottesville, Virginia - April, 2005) Award-winning singer-songwriter Cathy Bollinger has just released her seventh CD, My Turn Your Turn: Songs for Building Social Skills, this past month.

Bollinger's labor of love CD includes 14 singable songs addressing the needs of
any children who find social interaction confusing or challenging. A trained
music therapist, Bollinger has been working with children for more than 20
years. She engages in songwriting workshops and music therapy as well as
performing. There are seven children, ages 7 to 13, singing on My Turn Your
Turn, including fourth-grader Josh Tucker, who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, at age 3 1/2. Like many forms of autism, Asperger's manifests itself in many ways, including difficulty showing emotions and interacting with others.

Using descriptive, social story-like phrases to talk about concrete situations,
Bollinger wrote all 14 songs on My Turn Your Turn to help children build social skills. These songs touch on empathy, asking for help, handling anger, and other daily interactions. With music that makes learning fun, Bollinger
breaks common everyday situations down into simpler and more understandable activities.

Bollinger attributes her ability to reach out and connect with autistic children
through her songs to the support and encouragement of Josh and his parents,
Bill and Elly Tucker. Many of the song topics written by Bollinger for this CD
came at the suggestion of Elly and the OASIS Network, a online support group for parents of autistic children.

One night Elly awoke from a dream and kept hearing the phrase "Everybody has strengths to be proud of" and discussed the theme with Bollinger. Two days later, Bollinger ran with the idea and wrote the last song on the CD, using the phrase as the title.

"Most people never talk about the abilities of children with mental and physical challenges," says Bollinger, who believes that as long as people work together, no matter what their abilities, they can always learn from each
other.

Bollinger has been commissioned to write and sing for a variety of projects
including: a promotional song for the island of St. Thomas; a promotional
jingle for Piedmont Virginia Community College; songs and sounds to help
Chinese students learn English; songs supporting children learning to write;
songs emphasizing sounds and words used specifically in speech therapy.
She received her Master of Arts in creative arts therapy from Drexel University
College of Medicine (formerly Hahnemann Medical School) in Pennsylvania and can
often be found in the classroom, singing with preschool and elementary
audiences. Toddlin' Tunes is her sixth CD. Cathy Bollinger lives in
Charlottesville, Virginia, with her husband and their three children, ages 7, 11
and 17.

The CD retails for $15.98 and is currently available for sale through Bollinger's web site at www.rivannamusic.com. Bollinger and the Tuckers are seeking other distribution channels including on-line retailers, educational
centers, record stores and other commercial outlets.

Incredibly Helpful and Surprisingly Enjoyable CD Helps Build Social Skills
author: Erika Milvy, Parenting Magazine, August Edition 2005
"With appealing bluegrass and swing melodies that afford frequent listening, this incredibly helpful and surprisingly enjoyable CD helps build social skills. Like Mr. Rogers, Bollinger's gentle songs rouse kids to think about their and other people's feelings with thoughtful dialogue (and great kid-vocals) that work through confusing or challenging situations. Turn-taking, expressing anger and when (and how often!) -- to say 'excuse me' are some of problems tackled in this musically sophisticated beginner's guide to socialization. I was surprised at how pertinent it is for all kids; my 3 and 1/2 year old daughter was listening very intently and I realized no social interaction really comes naturally, it all has to be learned."

Thank you so much for the excellent work on your CD "My Turn, Your Turn: Songs for Building Social Skills"! I am so impressed with the CD that I shared the information with the other Speech-Language Pathologists in my district. I also sent an e-mail to the district School Psychologists. I have already loaned one of the CDs I purchased to a parent of a young lady with Aspergers. This parent is listening to see if the CD would be appropriate to purchase for her daughter. I wanted to let you know that I am getting the word out about your wonderful product!! ~Kathleen S., M.A., CCC-SLP
