Cathy Felter grew up in the San Francisco bay area and has been involved in both choral and solo work in such far ranging activities as competing at the California Music Educators Association Festival in solo classical performance (3 years), roles in musical theater, a member of a small Madrigal group, a member of the “Dogtown Singers-a small jazz choir, and a member of a performing guitar folk trio. She has studied music at Diablo Valley College, the University of California at Berkeley, the Jazzschool, and JazzCamp West. Most recently she has been appearing around the bay area in both public and private venues, and is usually heard with “My Trio”. “My Trio” includes pianist Peter Eden, bassist Dean Muench, and drummer Bruce Felter. Cathy has performed at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, the Plush Room, the Berkeley Marina Doubletree, Clarion Lake Merritt Hotel, Jimmies, The Oyster Reef, Martuni’s, La Pena Restaurant, Anna’s, Concord Hilton Hotel, the Brazilian Room, His Lordship’s Restaurant, Haas Clubhouse, Café LaNote, Café Caracas, 689 Bryant Street Gallery, as well as other public and private venues. Her repertoire embraces the masters of the genre: Duke Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael, Billie Holliday, Benny Carter, Sammy Cahn, Bob Dorough, Harold Arlen, to name a few. Cathy’s vocal style is characterized by a warm, rich contralto voice that is filled with heart. You should hear her sing!
