Here's a female electric guitarist can actually play. The CD features both rockin' & melodic, always emotional instrumental hard-rock music. If you like Jeff Beck or Eric Johnson, give it a listen. If you like the Go Gos - DON'T even bother...

Cat is not your 'CHICK' guitar player! She actually knows how to play that thing! A female guitarist originally from Ohio, she started out first on the trumpet at age 6, took up the guitar at age 12, and began playing in bands just a few months later. Cat started out playing lead in
all-male bands and later mostly all-male bands which toured most of the US, opening for many major acts and doing extensive club work. One of these bands worked with artists like Percy Sledge and Donna Fargo.
She then moved to Toronto where she joined the successful all-girl band "Apple Viper" who appeared on TV, placed in several competitions, recorded, and toured Ontario and Manitoba.
Cat recently wrote 2 feature songs and music for the movies "Rules, Regs, & Arrears" and "The Interrogation" for Latitude 25 Pics (formerly Paka Productions). She has also recently completed scoring the movies "Birthright" & "Sunshine".
Miss Rood is now working on a blues based CD with vocals where she is playing everything INCLUDING the drums.
Cat has released two solo CDs which she recorded in her home digital recording studio. "Guitar Play" was the first. She wrote all the songs and played every instrument except the drums. Although Cat sings, the songs on "Guitar Play" are all instrumental featuring the guitar and some trumpet. It's sort of what might happen if Jeff Beck and Joe Satriani met Herp Alpert. Her brand new CD "How Rude!" is also available here at CDbaby.

This Cat Shredds!
author: Dave WagnerCat Rood "Guitar Play" Cd Review (OUTWALKING THE STORM) Cat said some folk's call this her "Satriani" tune. Starts out with some rockin double time drum's before Cat jumps in cry baby & all and proceeds to show why she loves instrumental rock. She is damn good at it! I myself don't get Satriani on this one but mid-song a horn section line jumps out at ya. This remind's me of a Vai type thing from his Zappa day's. Satch, Vai, Zappa hmmmm... Cat sure seems to be in good company. (FOR WHO ELSE?) Cat pays tribute to her idol Mr. Jeff Beck on this hi-energized, progressive instrumental. I think if Jeff heard this he would be proud. Cool dive bomb, tremelo and harmony action. Awesome tone and a few subliminal Beck offerings really hold the listeners attention. (NO VACANCY) Neat keyboard intro sets the tone for Cat to lay down some tasty bluesy licks.Slow and soulfull is the best way to tag this one. (CALM BEFORE) Killer slide work and tremelo action on this mid-paced instrumental. Maximum use of delay and feedback sweep's. I am blown away by Cats control over her instrument. (WARP DRIVE) Jazzy, funky, off time rythyms lay the foundation for Cat to build a house of shredd on Warp Drive. Cats time signitures and fret work are right on. Yet another great Cat Rood instrumental. (THE CUT) Cat labels this melodic jam "Mood Music" Starts off with a morse code sounding intro before a catchy harmony laden riff takes hold and sets your soul soaring. (DREAMSCAPE) Haunting key's, volume swells and trumpets open up "Dreamscape" Cat sprinkles some dynamic harmonized leads as a funky bass line holds down the fort. Nice...really nice! (TAKE THE DETOUR) Kind of a popish, new wave keyboard intro starts this one out. Cat enters first with trumpet then her kick butt lead work goes full bore! Towards the end there is a trade-off between the trumpet and the guitar. You gotta hear this! (THE END OF THE WORLD) This fast paced has a Mid-Eastern (Egypt not Cleveland) flair to it. Once again Cat struts her stuff with some mind and string bending fret work that is phenominal. (FINALE) Cat winds down a bit on Finale. Keys and volume swells that are both ghostly and full of passion are in order here. Cat bids the listener a sweet goodbye. (THE BOTTOM LINE) This Cats got CLAWS! Cat Rood his one of the best rock guitarist around today. Male or Female. Her use of effects and techniqe is superb. No two songs sound alike yet they all have that distinctive Cat sound.. A sure sign of musical diversity and influences. She is as I like to say "At One" with her instrument. Though her guitar playing takes center stage, remember she also play's everything else on the cd but the drums. This is no small feat. There is a big difference between just playing your backing tracks and doing it well. (Which Cat does) This review of Cat Rood's Guitar Play is of course only one mans opinion. Go to her site and listen for yourself. I not only recomend this cd to you all but as soon as I am done with this review I am going to buy a copy for my collection! Dave Wagner (NMN 2000)
Sounds Killer
author: Jeff DuffieldThis is a killer CD. If you like good rock guitar then you'll like Guitar Play. While the trumpet makes it unique, I feel it would be a better album without it.
