CAUSTIC LYE (kah-stik lye) noun: Caustic Lye can be defined as a volatile mixture of Melodic harmonies, Aggressive Rhythms, Socio-political and Personal rants ( or epiphanies,) and all out explosive energy. The theories and hypotheses used to create this hybrid " Lye" composition went through Eight years of extensive and laborious experimentation to reach the subatomic level. Do not handle "The Lye" if you have been found with any of these symptoms: Ignorance, Lack of tolerance, Religious Fanaticism, Bigotry, Classism, Popular Media Brainwashing (or PMB), Narrowmindedness, or Grandiose Delusions of Global Harmony. If you get "The Lye" on the skin or in the eyes, immediately work yourself into a sweaty frenzy and flush with vigorous amounts of Tequila and Beer. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE A WARNING. Through the years Caustic Lye has had the pleasure of sharing stages and Venues with such groups as Mudvayne, Powerman 5000, Taproot, Candiria, Clutch, Karma to Burn, Isis, Between the Buried and Me, The Black Dahlia Murder, Into the Moat, Goatwhore, Genitorturers, Dalek, 36 Crazyfists, Hemlock, Rwake, Powerface, Cephalic Carnage, Spite, Drawn and Quartered, Vehemence, Wicked Innocence, Cannibal Corpse, Macabre, Index case, Dying Fetus, and many, many more. Rob's Review - This is one of those bands that has so much promise in the music department The musical ideas are right on and are very inventive with almost a progressive metal vibe going on. The mood changes and tempo shifts really keep your ears on their toes. The arrangements are awash with depth and dynamics that remind me of Into Eternity in parts. In the end, Dammit this music rules!

An initially awkward mix of metal genres, that with patience ultimately works rather well.
I had a really hard time trying to encapsulate Caustic Lye’s adventurous sound, as it basically mixes metalcore, drone, alt rock, nu metal and ambient into one strangely enjoyable release. Though not as caustic or solvent as the moniker, due to some acceptable rock clean vocals and choruses (though thankfully never emo or whiny), the gruff hardcore/metalcore shouts and spurts of moody, angular metal still give That That Is Is a definite and adventurous metal edge.
In all, I’m sort of reminded of 10 Years, Isis, Twelve Tribes, Poison The Well and Sevendust all wrapped into one ball of hard to define metal that, due to its variety might have a hard time finding an audience. However, after the initial vocal jitters of the surprisingly hefty “All This... (I said Under My Breath)”, the vocal mix settles with you and you can start appreciating the music as tracks like “Man, Machine and Godhead”, “Counting the Miles” and “A Burning Embrace” start to sit a little easier and mix rumbling antagonistic riffs while more metalcore-ish, commercial, steady rock riffs such as
