Modesta, a 6-movement piece written for string quartet, is an intrepidly exquisite combination of modal counterpoint and atonal sequences webbed into arrays of contemporary music. This string quartet masterfully combines dynamic interpretation with polyrhythmic punch. This gem, modern or not, will be up to you to discover, when the past inspired by the Ars Nova meets the absence of tonal center and syncopation. Wonderful melodic phrases bring the listener closer to a powerful emotional world that the artist unveils. Composer Carlos Cuellar Brown, a.k.a. ccbrown, has pulled this one out of his eclectic hat, proving that there is lots yet to write and explore in traditional formats.
