Colorado's long-standing royalty of rootsy funk, Chris Daniels & the Kings are back with their new recording, 10. It is the Kings signature-sound: smoking at BBQ temperature, with a brassy, blues-rocking sound that can trace its roots to somewhere between Memphis, New Orleans and Colorado. It's the band's most fun-filled recording of its 21-year history ("The best funky blues coming out of the States," according to Muziekcafe, Amsterdam's number one live rock & blues show on TROS Radio Holland!)
10's originals include a pair of prime party numbers ( "Howlin' at the Moon" and "Bluz Cruz"), the feel-good ("Come On Sit in my Kitchen") and a worldly ode ("It's All Good") that turns the phrase on its ear. 10's covers include Howlin' Wolf's ( and Electric Flag classic) "Killin' Floor," the blue-eyed funk of "Who's Makin' Love," a horn-sectioned cover of Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Crossfire," and a lesser-known Average White Band treat, "Soul Mine."
Billboard calls Chris Daniels & the Kings "one of the few acts with enough brass in its gorgonzola's to hit the road as a full fledged horn band." The seven piece band has been described as "Little Feat with horns," "Louis Jordan meets John Hiatt," calling to mind Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, and a swinging Keb Mo.
Focus Tracks - Audience and early radio favorite "highlights" include:
Track #2 Killin' Floor, even better than the "Electric Flag" version with special Bush update
Track #1 Howlin' At The Moon, fun "horn band" funk
Track #5 Bluz Cruz, Keb Mo meets the Memphis horns
Track #4 Come On Sit Down In My Kitchen, picks up where the Robert Johnson invite left off
Chris Daniels & the Kings perform an average of 180 to 200 shows per year. The band's 10 tour will include their 14th European tour (in October), shows in California, and the prestigious Jazz Aspen Festival. The band has built a name for itself with 9 critically acclaimed releases in the US, Europe, Japan, and through performing for dignitaries like the Queen of Holland and President Clinton, and they can be seen on VH-1, Much Music, Onhe Filter and HDnet .The band has played at thousands of clubs and festivals around the world, including Parkpop (Holland) and its crowd of 450,000 Dutch fans. DYN-NO-MITE!!!

While the samples are an incredible way to find great music on CD Baby, sometimes those samples don't tell the whole story. How many times have you heard some part of some song that you like, and you go and buy the CD only to find out that you just wasted your money on garbage? Well, I used to do that until I found CD BABY. Now I get to listen to more songs before I decide to purchase the CD. The problem with only a two minute clip of each song is that it doesn't tell the whole story. Now considering my past history when it comes to purchasing music, I was a bit skeptical about buying an album. (As you can imagine)
But make no mistake about it, the purchase of this CD was a remedy for all of my past mistakes. The rest of the album (after the two minutes) blew me away. From only listening to the beginning of each song, you would not expect the rest of the album to be so musically together. But that's where you are wrong my friend. This band has talented musicians behind every instrument, from amazing sax and trumpet solos to a guitar player who doesn't get enough credit for how good he is. Now do yourself a favor and buy this CD. You won't regret it.
