Album Notes

"La Flor" is a beautiful masterpiece. Born from a long generation of respected musicians, it is no doubt music thrives in her blood. Edna Ceballos, better known in the Latin market as "Monica Ceballos" has been captivating audiences with her stunning vocals and charismatic performances from a VERY early age. This album, released in 1998 under Sigala Records, marked a launching point in her vocal career.
Each song was arranged by the well-known and sought after Mexican musician, Juan Manuel Cortez. He also composed the lively "Tierra Indiana"(Native Soil), and the gorgeous melody "Alma Enamorada" (Soul in Love) exclusively for this album. He has collaborated and recorded with countless artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Vicente Fernandez, Rocio Durcal,The Sparks, and others.

This Mariachi CD is very acculturated for these modern times. I truly enjoy popping "La Flor" into my car and being overcome with nostalgia,...thinking of those times of Lola Beltran, and Lucha Villa. Monica does such a fascinating rendition of these beloved classics!!

For lovers of true classic mariachi!

On this CD, Monica Ceballos captures the true spirit of mariachi in a way that few contemporary artists do. Rancheras, sones, huapangos, a ranchera norteña and a beautiful bolero round out this collection. Half are classic songs, and the other half are apparently previously unpublished, yet they all mesh together beautifully. The mariachi arranger/producer here has done an amazing job as well, coaxing contagious energy and tender expressivity as needed from the violins, trumpets, and guitars. Most impressive is Monica's vocal power and confident performance--rare for such a young singer--which radiate the heartfelt emotion native to this genre. I look forward to hearing future releases from this talented performer!
