“Cedric Watson seems to have chosen the right place and time to be a prodigy of la musique Créole française de la Louisiane on this (title) his first solo CD effort. Of course no freshman effort could possibly surpass the creativity, originality and ground-breaking perseverance of past Créole greats such as Canray Fontentot, Bois-Sec Ardoin, Bébé Carriere, Clifton Chenier and the master, Amédé Ardoin, to name but a few.

Upon first listening, it becomes obvious that Cedric is part of the present company of musicians that can combine the lineage from these past benefactors with an effervescing originality. To propel our Louisiana Creole culture into the future seems to be quite a task, but if one lives for the music as Cedric does, his path and music seem effortless. Weaving together both Louisiana Creole accordion and fiddle styles, together with Canray’s Caribbean influences, young Watson combines the wisdom of these studied musicians into the vitality and spark of his twenty-something years. These songs may well be early brushstrokes of a life’s worth of possibilities, not only for him but also for the identity survival of a culture. Young Watson is very much aware of his position in this time and appears to be determined to live out his true musical calling.

Fortunate are those that discover Cedric’s soulful talent while he’s still in the process of developing a realistic identity as a creative musician of today.”
