Expanding the palette from their first outing, Cellardoor returns to the studio with an expansive, melancholy sophomore effort, featuring contributions from guitarists Ami and John Carlin and vocalist Jennifer Bechtel.
Still churning out moody, catchy tunes, drew Edwards' songwriting remains as varied and dynamic as ever. The complex, introspective "soulless" and the dance-flavoured, guitar-driven "the world was made to break my heart," along with 9 other new tracks, are the perfect soundtrack for a rainy day.
Adding layers of electric and acoustic guitars to their distinctive piano/synth sound, "i didn't get the memo" demonstrates Cellardoor's continued explorations into pop music's more interesting crevices.
This is the electro-acoustic pop album of 2005.

A much darker and more personal second time around.
author: Drake McCarthy
After the perkiness of "boy wonder" and others on the first album, I was sort of surprised to hear the really sad, angst-ridden songs on this, Cellardoor's second album. Regardless, this album is really excellent, standouts being "soulless" and "the boy with only tears for lullabies" but much more introspective and mature. drew Edwards has never sounded more lonely, staying out of the higher ranges that were on "L'esprit" (although still really high), and the added guitars add a nice new dimension to the sound. Perfect for those rainy Sunday afternoons in July. I recommend it highly!
