Album Notes

CELLARSCAPE is singer, drummer & guitarist Paul Terry’s alt-acoustic moniker that he has been writing, recording and performing under since 2003. Fusing haunting vocals with angular drumming, fragile but anthemic guitars, plus, hypnotic orchestrations, Cellarscape songs bristle with an undeniably cinematic presence...

... So it comes as no surprise that Paul has a burgeoning sideline in film soundtracks. These include the recent award-winning horror-comedy 'The Furred Man' (2010) – currently experiencing high praise in several international film festivals; the acclaimed 2006 feature 'The Wake'; the forthcoming 'Queen of Hearts', and the award-winning 2001 short, 'Mightier'. The world-renowned Empire Film Awards also used Paul's film music for their 2009 promo campaign.

Back in 2006, Cellarscape’s first release was the ‘Copilot’ EP [“...songs of desolation that echo with mood and meaning...” – County Times]. Then, 2007’s progressive ‘Fifth Phoenix’ EP followed. From the intense ‘A Brief Time Of Bullets’, to the yearning harmonies of ‘Kerosene’ and doomy loops of ‘Transition Sickness’, Rockworld TV described Cellarscape as “truly a force to be reckoned with.”

Current album ‘Animation, Suspension’ sees Cellarscape go stratospheric. After the deceptively blissed-out intro of ‘Crawlspace’, this eclectic album’s high gear kicks in with the triumphant ‘Target Acquired’. The sinister stylings of ‘The Creek’ and schizophrenic ‘You Got The Girl’ highlight Cellarscape’s love of tonal changes, all the while keeping the music’s core emotionally-charged.

With the grinding punch of ‘Bled Out’, the dark and punishing ‘Treading Water’ through to vocal-only ‘December Moon’ and insanely catchy battle-cry pop of ‘Minor Fractures’, 'Animation, Suspension' commands your attention throughout its 15 unpredictable tracks – something that has garnered glittering critical acclaim from press around the world, including: “Impeccable songwriting. A symphony for today's music lover.” (Australia’s Awesome Radio); “A diverse range of soundscapes creating a palette of aural delight.” (Big Cheese Magazine); “You’ll think you’ve listened to Cellarscape all your life... 15 perfect tracks.” (Radio Sonar); “Crushing. Absorbing. Gentle. Uplifting. Relentless. Awesome.” (BBC Radio); “Remarkably varied... songs that could’ve been composed by Metallica or Tears for Fears only increases its wonder.” (Daily Music Guide).

With a new EP, ‘A Theta/Delta Union’ planned for late 2010 / early 2011, and the next full-length Cellarscape record also due out later in 2011 – plus, the soundtrack for ‘Queen of Hearts’, and the debut of Paul’s atmosphere-core heavy project, Ash Tree Lane – it’s business as usual, with Paul Terry’s music staying as eclectic as ever.

Paul Terry, records, writes and performs under the name of Cellarscape. This "Animation, Suspension " Album runs the gauntlet of emotions and comes out the other side positive and renewed. Paul Terry works the drums , Guitar and Vocals himself on this album. His songwriting skills read like a poets dream. Reminicent of Jim Morrison from The Doors. He has a way of putting together the words to create a symphony of pictures and sound in your mind. This album is Riveting and even Groundbreaking, using some magnificent Guitar riffs. You will rock out to songs like "Minor Fractures" and "You Got The Girl". Your heart will bleed to "Bled Out" , beautifully mastered. In fact every track is different , Cellarscape travels throughout Styles and emotions. Very Nicely done!! The three tracks I have singled out of the 15 tracks are: Punchlines - Track 8 - This is an beautiful representation of Paul Terry's gift for both songwriting and vocals. The melody is wonderful and will have you hooked. Acoustic Guitar is used in this track, frames the vocals and makes them stand out, while it slowly Rocks . A Must for your music library. Shadowfight - Track 9 - This is a hard hitting , guitar & drum lead track. Great vocals! Catchy song. This one will have you up off your chair !! Songwriting is brilliant!! Lyrics and Vocals are no less than I would expect on Cellarscape. Absolutely fantastic. You will Love this one. Minor Fractures - Track 14 - This song starts off with a lone Acoustic Guitar then breaks into a full frontal Rock/pop track. Very upbeat, great for the club! Once again Paul's vocals are magnificent. Songwriting is impeccable. You will be singing along with this one right away. A song that everyone can relate to. Fantastic Job !!! Cellarscape.. Animation , Suspension... a symphony for today's music lover. Alternative Rock , Experimental. Groundbreaking. Run.. get it... play it over and over. Lyrics can be found at http://www.sbrecords.co.uk/ Definately go check the lyrics out for yourself. They are unforgettable.
