Celtic Clan is a 3/4 piece band based in Boston but playing worldwide Celtic Clan as it currently stands formed about 5 years, are based in Boston MA.
USA but can be seen and heard in the strangest of places-from the Orient to downtown Boston-maybe even in your home town! Being primarily an Irish band, but also delving into all facets of popular music, Celtic Clan can best be described as "a band for all reasons".
They blend Irish, Rock'n'Roll, Top 40, Comedy and Traditional with equal zest and can go from a slow ballad to a rousing "U2" in the "blink of a tonsil".
Their instruments range from Guitar, Bass, Fiddle, Tin-whistle, Tenor banjo, Concertina and percussion with a bit of Uilleann-pipes thrown in! Audience participation is a large part of their performance and sing-along songs are featured in abundance.
FRANK RYAN Guitar/Vocals/Percussion
Originally from Dublin's inner-city , Dublin Ireland,Frank is the mainstay and lead-singer of the band.An accomplished songwriter with versatile voice and and aggressive rhythmic-guitar-playing with undertones of Spanish and Classical influence among his strengths. Extremely quick-witted with that Dublin "flair-for-the imaginative", Frank has performed throughout the world and has appeared on numerous T.V.shows,recordings and radio. He is ultimately responsible for booking the "gigs", setting-up the sound ,and keeping the other band members "sober"....
(yeah-roight !).
HUGHIE PURCELL (Banjovi)Bass,Vocals,Tenor Banjo,Percussion
Ah yes...Hughie....who has a great future BEHIND him....
lights up a room ...every time he LEAVES it ......where would one begin ... mmmm.... lets see..Hughie is a "throwback" ( and he should have been!) to the Joycean era of Dublin .Quick caustic wit with a flair for "embellishment" of the facts . Oh yeah...he is also a fantastic musician-playing Tenor Banjo, Bass, Drums and Guitar. Hughie has a CD called "Prisoner of Youth" on which he plays all the instruments and composed all the songs-kinda like Ireland's answer to "SEAL"....we call him "GASKET"
BILLY HARDY (Fiddles/Concertina)
From the beautiful CAPE-COD area of Massachusetts in
the U.S. ,Billy is a SUPERB fiddle-player possessing a silky
smooth touch (so silky in fact ,that it should be in a
"Victoria's Secret" Catalogue!)... tinged with fire and adventure.Billy also doubles on vocals and concertina and designs and builds his own fiddles
ASSOCIATE MEMBER:
RICHARD DANFORTH (Uilleann Pipes/Bodhran
From Barrington RI, Rich plays Uilleann Pipes-the beautifully haunting sound made famous in RIVERDANCE and also the movie "Titanic". Rich is also adept on the Bodhran and Low -Whistle.

Full of Irish wit, humor, and poignant angst! Terrific!
author: R Denice Brown
Each time I listen to The Big Jig(back in Texas), I relive the grand time I had at RoisÃn Dubh (Small Black Rose) pub in Boston where I heard The Celtic Clan. I heard favorites performed in a new way, songs new to me and now favorites, and my heartstrings touched with the poignancy of Irish history pictured in other numbers all performed with a high-energy vivacity. Recordings don't always accurately catch the fun and flavor of live performance, but The Big Jig has a "master-grip" on this occasion.
One of my favorite tickles is the ballad of "Biddy McGrath" even after some 20+ plays and counting. That's merely one mention on a project that expertly mixes song and instrumental, traditional and modern rock 'n roll, great vocals and tight play. What a spectrum! Done effortlessly. If I may be so bold, "eargasm" for any Celtophile.

author: Billyjoe EAton
Professionally unique, refreshingly diverse, crisp instrumentals; songs of tradition to perky modernity. Musical selections are diverse as well as inventive. This collection goes beyond typical Irish albums in that it has something for all, from the classic traditional to new wave style. However; it is still faithful to the Irish cause: To join one human to another through music.
