Album Notes

Amidst the passion of musical exploration, the pleasure of creation, the exhilaration of musical interpretation, evolves l'ensemble Cercamon (sser-ka-mon).

And thus, since the founding of l'ensemble Cercamon at the turn of the century, this trio of musicians has succeeded in developing a most original style of music. Their creations exploit exceptional tones, produced by instruments from other periods and other lands, oriental as well as occidental. Hurdy-gurdy, oud, rauschpfeife, saz and bouzouki...all working together to yield a truly novel blend of music.

Cercamon's energetic interpretation of musical works and songs drawn from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance Era attracts large crowds. To these works represented from the past, the Ensemble adds its own compositions, bringing fresh new life to the music, and bringing music-lovers to their feet, dancing at festivals and other public events throughout Quebec, USA and elsewhere in the world.

Their exotically tinged compositions have energized choreographic creations, and have been used as sound tracks for several documentaries. Many of the Ensemble's creations have already been compiled on three albums.

Welcome to the musical universe of l'ensemble Cercamon!

My favorite CD
author: Melissa
I put this on my ipod, which I usually set on shuffle, but I get so happy whenever one of their tracks comes up, I have to listen to the whole album. Both of their albums, actually. This is just some of the best music I've ever heard: grounded in tradition, yet also very creative. Their virtuosity seems to come naturally to them, so they can be playful with it. Their rhythms in particular are a constant source of fascination. This CD sounds a bit less traditional and more jazzy than their other one, Musique des traditions orales, but they are both great.

Nothing Less Than Incredible
author: Kevin Hartnell
"Blau" is one of the best recordings I have heard in years. The quality of the musicianship, compositions, production, and artwork is extremely high. I recently had the opportunity to see them perform material from this CD live and it was nothing less than incredible. Hearing them perform "Blau" (self-titled track) live was one of those special moments where the listener connects so strongly with the music that everything else fades away. Unique, passionate, and soul-stirring!
