Album Notes

An ambitious step forward from their 1999 debut 'Skylight', Cerulean's 'brighter/still' successfully captures the broad scope of Cerulean's sound, spanning the distance between crashing arena tremblers and haunting mood pieces. Matching this intensity with stunning lyrical imagery, 'brighter/still' speaks with cohesion, purpose, and a sense of urgency rarely heard.

This is my first Cerulean CD, but I think I may pick up the other album as well. I like to think of it as the Trash Can Sinatras mixed with The Sundays and The Ocean Blue with a little more edginess. Very good album.

I won't say that I told you so, but I am not shocked by the quality of this album. I saw this band a couple of times in the 1998-1999 time frame in LA and was moved enough to buy their first effort...Skylight. I then happened upon them again in early 2001 and was buoyed by the fact that howling licks, reality-based vocals, and some thoughtful song writing were still this band's staples. I have thoroughly enjoyed brighter/still and have promptly installed it on my computer and have a copy of the disc in my CD player as I type. These guys aren't the second coming or anything as drastic as the bearers of the New World Order....but they are a band that delivers music worth listening to....and isn't that what we all want.
