notes
CeyJay is a 27-year old singer/songwriter/pianist/dancer/model originally from Chicago and currently residing in Boston.
He performs music which he classifies as New (R)Age Art Rock; a mixture of folk, rock, pop and theatre - music that blends together many of his various influences.
The music is emotive and dramatic with the final meaning left to the listener. Although the songs can be serious and sad, the next song could be very cynical or satirical, reflecting his ever-changing feelings on the world around him.
Mostly a solo performer, CeyJay's music has been heard at various bars, colleges, and coffeehouses. Sometimes he even performs impromptu shows for other people's parents in their homes.
When he is not performing on his own, he can be found dancing and choreographing for the Boston-based dance company, Rainbow Tribe. He also teaches dance and does freelance choreography throughout the city.
In addition to singing and dancing, CeyJay models for television commercials and print ads, and works at a non-profit AIDS service organization.
"Bittersweet Morsels" is his first independent debut. It is a short but bittersweet taste of songs written throughout the years. It is a sample of one side of his personality and is reflective of the truimphs and tragedies of his recent life. From the song written from the point of view of a porno star ready for real love ("Do") to the view of a maniacal hormonally charged teen ("Teenage Girl"), the CD hopes to convey a message of anger, loss, contemplation, and hope.
"CeyJay...breaks som rules to interesting effect...is interesting and eerie enough to have the listener hanging onto every word." Michael Caito, The Providence Phoenix
"In Big Noise's 10 year history, we never worked with an artist as original and innovative as CeyJay. Combining classical skills with an intuitive pop sensibility, CeyJay is destined for greatness." Al Gomes, Big Noise Records
"Combining rock. folk, and theatrical music in his airy-piano based repertoire, CeyJay places his tender. emotive vocals right out front." CMJ Magazine
"With a sound that reflects the inspiration he's received... CeyJay's music offers blunt and sometimes scathing observations of the human experience juxtaposed nicely with his soft spoken delivery."
Kevin McLaughlin, Innewsweekly
