About the Artists
Colyn Fischer has twice won the U.S. National Fiddling Championship. He performs nationally, teaches school music in Southern California and at the Jink and Diddle School of Scottish Fiddle in North Carolina. Colyn composes and performs music ranging from Scottish through jazz and classical. He teaches violin and fiddle privately, and coaches the Peninsula Scottish Fiddlers in the San Francisco Bay Area. He plays a 1926 Benjamin Franklin Phillips fiddle named Angus.
Shauna Pickett-Gordon directs the Peninsula Scottish Fiddlers and has accompanied many of the great fiddlers in North America. Trained in classical piano and voice, she first learned about Scottish music from her late husband, the fiddler and acoustician Colin Gordon. She, too, composes music in several styles. She plays a Kawai parlor grand piano, and these recordings were made in her living room.
About These Tunes
Both of us have always written a lot of music, but until we started working together, most of the tunes went into the drawer. Neither of us expected that anyone would ever play them - that they would see the light of day. Then we started working together, and discovered what each could bring to the other's music: how a tune could open up with the right phrasing or the right harmonies underneath. Our audiences have told us that our music speaks to their emotions, which is good to hear, because each tune is no more and no less than a brief time exposure of a musician's heart and soul. We offer you these little pieces of ourselves in the hope that they may bring delight, reflection, laughter, memories, inspiration. And, we hope that we will hear from you, and perhaps play for you in person.

Brilliant and breathtaking!
author: Leah Sullivan
This music springs alive, a wildly expressive presence in the room, raucous and windblown, poignant and aching. Two extraordinary performing and composing talents have taken tradition and brought its full power into the present. Ancestors dance and weep! Colyn\'s virtuosic, expressive fiddling and Shauna\'s dimensional subtleties on piano make great bursts of vivid experience of what might, for the non-aficonado, have been distant curiousity. Brilliant and breathtaking!

Phenomenal debut
author: Tom Philo
With superlative playing like this, it would be rewarding enough to hear these two record nothing but long-established Scottish fiddle standards. But the real gift of this CD is the players’ own compositions – beautifully played, of course, but all with colors and an emotional immediacy one does not always find in the traditional tunes. It sounds as fresh on the tenth hearing as it does on the first. Can’t wait to hear what they come up with next.
