Album Notes

(Chad Hollister) There must be something strange in the water in Burlington that has spawned the creative explosion of Phish, Strangefolk, Belizbeha and now Chad. Singer-songwriter Chad Hollister is a dynamic part of the East Coast music scene, sharing the stage with greats like Phish, The Jerry Garcia Band, Marshall Tucker Band, The Violent Femmes, Eddie Money, and Spin Doctors.

Chad began his musical career as a percussionist, and this early training is clearly evident is his seamlessly rhythmic guitar playing. Musically inspired by Santana, the Police, Bob Marley, James Brown, Paul Simon and Louis Armstrong, Chad takes the influences he's grown up with and puts them together in his own style, sort of rock 'n' roll meets funk meets reggae meets Island groove meets acoustic.

His live show explodes with energy, rhythm and groove. Chad and his band connect with the audience and converse with humor, wit, laughter, spontaneous performances and improvisations. Eclectic, acoustic, funky and fun are only a few words to describe the songs and sounds that will pull you to your feet and leaving you dancing. Chad's music is ear candy, guaranteed to give you cavities, twisting rock, funk and reggae into a taffy that sticks to the roof of your mouth so bad you won't ever get it out of your head.

Vocally, Chad's clear and passionate delivery is infectious. Musically, his percussive style of guitar playing keeps you rocking. Lyrically clever, Chad's songs often infuse humor about love and life. The music has a familiar feel--you know--the Wallflowers meets Matchbox 20 meets Paul Simon meets the Barenaked Ladies meets Edwin McCain. At the same time it is distinctly unique to Chad and to his passion and love for music and for the world that inspires it.

Chad has recently opened up for Tom Petty, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan on SFX's Levi's Concert Tour. He's also jammed with other modern legends like Jonathan Mover (Joe Satriani, Alice Cooper, Aretha Franklin), Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers), Trey Anastasio and Jon Fishman (Phish), and Blues Traveler.

Chad has three recorded albums to his credit. The first "Chad & Jeff" was in collaboration with his childhood friend, Jeff, who broke up the touring duo when he decided to go to law school. The second record "Long Haired Boy" is an adventuresome effort, featuring only a fretless bass, congas and vocals.

His third and current self-titled project was produced by Charlie Midnight (of Joe Cocker, The Doobie Brothers and James Brown fame) and partner Joel Soyffer in Glendale, CA at Coney Island Studios. "It's an incredible album that will have you laughing one minute and jamming the next. It walks you through all the emotions and leaves you waiting for more...the next chapter."

This is the second cd of Chad's I have heard, having gotten Life first. This one is just awesome. Doot Doot and Kiss Me just draw you in with some great popping, fun lines, and I had to play Wake Up three times in a row the first time through, just to get the jammin' done. I drive in Mass, so Monster Truck sums up how I feel about rush hour pretty well... and Monet. Well, what can I say about Monet, except that I wish it had been written about me. This is one of the cds that make my work day fly. I give it 5 stars for fun, for some awesome percussion, and for incredibly clever lyrical tricks.
