This album was inspired when Lawson was asked to compose a piece for a short film. The director gave him an idea of what he was looking for and from there, the first song composed for The Space Between was Father Abraham. So inspired by the new piece, Lawson continued writing so much so that the entire album, with the exception of Heart in Hand, was written in one day and then Lawson recorded the entire release the following evening. It wasn't until 2 weeks later that Chad was asked to write a piece for a commercial that A Love is Born was written and recorded, both in less than an hours time. After hearing the final outcome, he knew it needed to be on the release as well.
"Never stop reinventing yourself" Phil Ramone once told him during a rehearsal the late Ramone was directing. The Space Between is a departing phase of Lawson's award winning, The Piano, yet continues to remain true to his audience. While completely different, it's as if the listener is hearing something vaguely familiar yet new all at once.
Produced by Lawson and Alejandro Clavijo, it was recorded & mixed by Lawson and mastered by Grammy Award winner, Michael Graves. Released on the Hillset Records Label.
