Album Notes

Chalice & Blade is a pagan vocal group from Vancouver, Canada. We perform traditional Craft songs and original pieces based on the beliefs of Wicca and Paganism. Our music reflects our spiritual tradition - we sing songs which show our reverence for the earth and the balance of the God and Goddess. We also draw on themes such as: the wheel of the year, chants that invoke the elements, ballads inspired by our delight in life, magick and the playfulness of imagination.

Canadian Wicca Folk
author: Wild Hunt
The sound is quite unfinished, casual, folk sing-a-long style. The ladies voices are untrained and take a little getting used to, but so did Norma Waterson for me, and I love the Watersons so that's not necessarily a bad thing. Though their voices were a shock at first listen, and to be honest, every time I put it on. The songs are very heartfelt, and the sound brings to mind softie Canadian folk singers, perhaps Gordon Lightfoot or Joni Mitchell. It's bass, guitar and vocals. Mojo sings well, with guts and what sounds like a heavy metal background, and I would like to hear him do something electric. The title track is the best one, and sounds like an accoustic version of a great rock song, something I would like to hear one day! There is also a celtic folk influence. Don't let the dark artwork fool you, this is family friendly stuff, and there is no rocking out on it. Very mild, earthy, accoustic music.
