Album Notes

Sir Charles Hammer began playing guitar at age 12 in Riverdale, Illinois. He began playing Beatles' music and rock 'n roll. In his 20's he developed an interest in classical guitar (Segovia). A 6 month vacation in Mexico turned into 5 years of serious classical guitar studies. Sir Charles became fluent in Spanish and adept at reading and performing classical guitar.

In addition, he performed with a salsa band: Los Fenicios de Puebla. The 90's were his back-to-school years... he recieved both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Guitar under Dr. Jim Greeson at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Next, he taught guitar and music history at the University from 95 - 99. In '98 he won a music composition award from the Arkansas Arts Council for original music featured on his CD: "Gratitude".. Sir Charles toured Mexico several times and performed in Europe as well (Spain, France and Holland).

Mr. Hammer's original music shows his varied interests and influences: healing, gentle, classical pop with touches of easy rock, blues, flamenco and of course Spanish guitar. Surely one of the world's great guitar masters, Sir Charles Hammer's 10th and final CD "It's Only Love" features incredibly beautiful arrangements of 18 of the very best Beatles songs. Check it out! You'll be glad you did..

One of the most outstanding Beatles tribute CDs in years.
author: Twentieth Century Guitar Robert Siverstein-Review Editor
Sir Charles Hammer “It’s Only Love” (Angeltone) Among the outstanding Beatles tribute CDs of the past few years, It’s Only Love features 18 multi-track guitar arrangements from Arkansas-based guitarist Sir Charles Hammer. A fine guitarist with a number of CDs to his credit, Sir Charles does the right thing with the Fab Four’s legacy reviving 16 Lennon-McCartney classics along with two tracks by Beatles’ guitar great George Harrison. Influenced by guitar greats like Steve Howe and Steve Hackett, Hammer’s exquisite work on classical, acoustic and occasional electric guitar is only surpassed by the long enduring nature each of these evergreen Beatles songs continue to radiate.
