Authentic!
author: Janet Stevenson
It's rare to find a jazz singer, especially one so young, who has found an authentic style. Her singing is flawless and her piano playing is sophisticated. Champian should have a bright future as an artist on a major label.

Really good singer
author: Graciela Carriqui
As a second generation jazz singer myself, I was pretty skeptical when I read the hyperbole about this singer. But she wiped my skepticism away; not only is she the first new jazz singer to come along in years that hasn't either bored me or gotten on my nerves, but she manages to embody the style, charm and chops of the golden era of jazz singers without sounding like an imitator of any one in particular (you can hear echoes of Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday, but they're not overwhelming). She also thankfully avoids the annoying habit of many modern jazz singers of incorporating pop or gospel references in their interpretations. I'm glad David Berger gave her the opportunity to sing and record with his great band, and look forward to hearing more of both. If she's this good at 22, we have a lot to look forward to.
