Album Notes

Chaos Code is from the Baltimore area. They released "A Tapestry of Afterthoughts" in 1999', "The Tragedy of Leaps and Bounds" in 2002, and have just released "Propaganda" in 2005'. "Propaganda" was recorded with total disregard for what is trendy and popular. It hits over the head like a blunt hammer of truth. The spirit of the 70's is apparent in the music yet the sound is very original. Dynamic changes weave dark heavy parts through to quieter passeges. WARNING: if you like albums that sound the same from start to finish do not buy this album. The production is rounded out by some cool cover art of ants taking over the world.

Chaos Code are back with their third album, and it was well worth the wait. This band has always managed the difficult task of wearing their influences on their sleeves (Landberk, Van der Graaf, Genesis), while still making original, meaningful music, and this is no exception. If anything, I think this may well be their finest achievement (which is saying something, considering the quality of music that can be heard on both "A Tapestry of Afterthoughts" and "The Tragedy of Leaps & Bounds"). Guitarist Cliff Phelps plays and sings with the fury of a demon trapped in a hex ring, and the ever tasteful and versatile drum dynamo Patrick Gaffney has really taken Cliff's material and raised it to a new level of excellence. This is what prog rock was menat to be. No capes. No fairies. No pretentious bullshit. Nothing but original songraft and deft musicianship serving up hooks, melodies and intelligent, haunting lyrics. If you're another idiot box junkie, there's no chance you'll like this. But that's ok, it wasn't meant for you. However, if you've made it this far please buy this album. It's a killer document of a band at the zenith of it's dark, creative prime. Hasn't left my player in weeks...
