Enchanting Music For a World Unknown!
author: Kristian Persson
This new release by 'Charles Thaxton' is a dream come true for fans of pure electronic music in the same style as Tangerine Dream & Jonn Serrie. There are many similarities, but yet the distinctive style/sound of Char-El is nearly always present on most tracks. The music on this CD takes me to far away places I could only dream about. A couple of good examples would be these; For instance, listening to the track 'Dawn Over Atlantis' actually makes me feel as if it was composed for a specific "Atlantis scenario", it certainly makes me think of such a place though. Another great imaginary track is 'Renewal', a track that could easily fit in a Soundtrack to a space documentary or something similar. Other great pieces are 'Astral Flight' & 'Awakening' which instantly reminds me of Tangerine Dream during the 80's period of time. The sequences and sound pallette is very similar to TD, but even so, one can't escape the trademark sound of Char-El, which is constantly breathing with it's distinctive symphonic sound structure. The mix between traditional EM and symphonic instrumental music is obvious on all tracks, not to mention on the second half of the CD where it's dominating to a huge extent. This is what I like about Char-El's music, he is always able to create his own unique infectious EM with some great symphonic flavour to it, which in return cretes a versatile experience to the listener. This is music for those seeking out something new/unique in terms of EM and other instrumental music. It will certainly make a great companion to a Planetarium Show, or why not just listen to it while stargazing? I highly recommend this CD, especially for fans of the 80's period Tangerine Dream sound!. Very well done!!
