Alexander Self described his style as break beat jazz; a unique exploration of jazz and progressive rhythm beats with influences ranging from Yemenite to hip hop to disco mixed with music composed of reggae, salsa, blues, Caribbean, smooth jazz, and slow R&B.

Charles Alexander started a Revue, with over 30 some musicians, and toured over 125 cities in the Southeast USA in the mid 70's, and 80's doing predawn shows on the college campus, and night clubs. He also appeared as an opening act for other large recording artists as well. Some of his music have been use by Large companies like HBO specials, and PBS for opening themes to some shows they have programmed.
