Album Notes

New York born and bred multi-instrumentalist Charles Compo, is creating edgy/smooth, electric, saxophone driven jazz. He has recorded and performed with artists such as, Sahib Shehab, Ted Daniels, Sonny Sharrock, Bo Diddley, Howard Johnson, Rashid Bakr, William Hooker, Roy Campbell Jr., Eddie Henderson, John Hicks, Wilber Morris, Kilpig, Demo Moe, Foolish Pleasure, Rebecca Franks, Julie Cruise and scores of other underground and downtown musicians.

Son of the late, great jazz violinist Peter Compo, and actress/singer Faith Compo, he was raised in a musical home, since then he has had an eclectic career spanning two decades. The last artist signed to Folkways Records by Moses Ashe, "Seven Abstractions For Flute" was produced and edited by Harry Smith and was the soundtrack for his Film #21, Fragments of a Faith Forgotten. Other compositions have included works for choreography with Mustafa Ahmed for the Black Theater Alliance with Mbewe Ninoska Escobar, and a commission to create a composition for choreographer Twyla Tharp.

Compo has performed extensively with underground drummer William Hooker. Together they have recorded over a dozen CDs, including three live performances recorded at the Knitting Factory: "Radiation" (Homestead Records), "Great Sunset" and "The Distance Between Us" (Knitting Factory Records), which remained in the top 10 on the CMJ charts for over two months.

In addition to writing and performing music in concerts and clubs, Compo toured with pop diva Christina Aguilera, and has appeared in numerous theater, commercial, movie, and television productions, both on and off camera. Performances as a featured artist have included: Return To The Forbidden Planet, The Hennessey Jazz Festival, The Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival, The Vision Festival, The JVC Jazz Festival, The Songwriters Hall of Fame, MAMO, The Film Makers Collective, PS 129, The Knitting Factory, CBGBs, The Massachusetts Museum of Fine Art, and The Rainbow Room. His party band is one of the most unique and in demand groups of its kind, it is considered by many to be the leading private party band in New York.

Seventh Moon was produced by David Patrick and features: Lewis "Flip" Barnes, Mustafa Ahmed, Eleizabeth Moore and David Patrick.

I just love Sun and Rain

Sun and Rain strikes the perfect balance between pop and jazz. Totally different, but strikes the same emotional chord as the classic Joy and Pain by Frankie Beverly and Maze.
