Album Notes

The Righteous Kind is a rock 'n' roll band from Gainesville, Florida - hometown to the likes of Tom Petty, Against me! and the late-great Bo Diddley. Led by award-winning singer/songwriter Charles R Martin, the band puts on a tremendous stage show and has great range - from classic to psychedelic to alternative to garage to pop rock with some Sly-influenced R&B too. The Righteous Kind also acknowledge Ike and both Elvis’s, the Beatles, Chrissie Hynde, Amy Winehouse and The Hives.

Three songs on their debut ‘Some Are of Love’ album won songwriting accolades, including ‘Righteous Man,’ winner in the 10th Great American Song Contest, and ‘Show me the day’ - their tribute to MLK - in the 2009 Peacedriven.com contest.

Joining guitarist and front man Martin are Tom Miller, formerly of Chicago’s Vini and the Demons, on bass, and drummer Larry Thompson, from the iconic rockabilly band dblWiDE. Rounding out the group is B.B. Brashear on the Hammond B3 organ.

“Featuring the one-of-a-kind Charles Ray Martin on guitar and vocals and one of Gainesville’s best rhythm sections, these guys bring back riff-infused rock 'n' roll with a strong psychedelic presence.” Dante Lima, Gainesville Sun

Some are of love

Charles Ray has created an amalgam of thoroughly organic core-vibrating rawkinroll, and like a fine southern gentleman, he is kind enough to share it with us. Like a scientist in a lab, not a mad scientist but a perfectly competent one with horn-rimmed glasses and hair neatly brylcreemed and a small lapel pin signifying his membership in the Order of Kentucky Colonels (or so I have heard) he has alchemized (it's a word--I looked it up) an impressive setlist. His music is a great soundtrack for wrenching on an old pickup, getting it running, and going into town for more beer. Charles Ray also put out Casa Del Fuego as the frontman of DBLWIDE, and that is a fantastic listen too. So good, in fact, that I am going to get up off of this couch, turn on the compressor, get my nailgun, drink more coffee, turn up the Charles Ray, and build me a shop to wrench on aforementioned pickup. You physically and chemically ROCK, Charles Ray!
