notes
"I wanted to create something that would appeal to all ages." So says award-winning children's book author, poet and photographer Charles R. Smith Jr. about his debut cd "Portrait Of A Poet."
"People will want to call my style of poetry 'rap' and that's cool, but it is poetry. It's just set to a beat. The second half of the album is all of the poems done 'a capella' because I wanted people to understand that when you strip the music away, the words still stand on their own."
"Life is all about journeys; sometimes you know where you're going, sometimes you don't, but if you educate yourself, participate in life and dream, you never know where it'll take you."

A Thoroughly Enjoyable Experience!
author: Linda K.I waited nearly 2 years for this CD to come out (from the first time I heard it was in the works)...and it was well worth it! This is a great "listen" for any age--my middle school students, teenage children, and husband all loved it...and wonderful for all ability levels and genders. The poetry is motivating, envigorating (great on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon), and clean; the vocals resonate; the power of poetry is palpable. Great for the classroom!
Motivate the reluctant reader!
author: Susan Senn- teacherLoved the CD. I used it with 5th grade. Everyone loved it. Mr. Smith's descriptions and voice are incredible. I downloaded the poems and we read them also. I used it to explain writing with voice. WOW. It is a powerful teaching tool. Motivation is easy with this CD.
