Charlie Petitt has always been a lover of music. He began writing music at a very early age. He has written numerous songs of various styles and genres. He grew up listening to old-time country music with his parents. Charlie was also active in church choirs. His appreciation for music was influenced by stars like Marty Robbins and Jim Reeves, as well as traditional church hymns. Years of listening to singer-songwriters like James Taylor, Carly Simon and crooners like Andy Williams (and more recently, Josh Groban and Michael Bublé) added new flavor to his writing style.
In college, Charlie sang in a men’s choral group which toured all over the central and southern U.S.
In 2005, Charlie wrote "He’s Not Here" especially for the Easter Celebration service at his local church. It went over so well that Charlie was told by several people that he should create his own CD. So, in short—he did!
Charlie's debut album features a variety of original songs including energetic rock, slow love ballads, gospel jazz and folk-classical fusion. His smooth, soothing voice appeals to people of all ages.
He starts off with "When I'm Away," an upbeat love song in a pop-rock style. "Thank You for My Wife" is a prayer of thanks and love that comes off more like a traditional hymn.
Now the CD takes an interesting turn: the next song, "I'm the Umm," is a cute little ditty about the Ummamum (UMM-a-mum), a goofy guy with a green face that tries to cheer you up when bad times get you down. The next song, "Wendi," is a serious love song that was actually used at his own wedding.
"He's Not Here" is a lively Christian jazz number about the resurrection of Christ. This is followed by "I Will Praise You," a harmony-driven Christian song with deep lyrics. "Hopelessly in Love" is an emotion-filled love ballad. "Autumn Breeze" is a sort of folk-classical fusion, lamenting our frenzy-paced society.
This is followed by "Noxious Fumes," a clever, catchy rock song about a breakup. The record concludes with a note of determination in "I'm Not Stopping."
Listening to this CD is a fun roller coaster ride. The most intriguing part of it is that despite all the variety, it actually works well as an album.
"Singing to a group of people always gives me a thrill, so I would like to do more of it." says Charlie. His goal is to share his musical messages with as many people as possible through the medium of radio, CD sales and live concerts.
