Album Notes
It seems only fitting that a band named after a wicked woman played their first gig at a club called Jezebel’s in Orange County, California. With a unique sound influenced by Great White, Guns N’Roses, and Led Zeppelin, they quickly garnered barrels of buzz and rode the wave of their rapidly rising popularity to other gigs, including renowned venues like The Whisky-A-Go-Go, The Roxy, The Troubadour, and FM Station, to name just a few. During their intense drive to grab metal’s elusive brass ring, they opened for the likes of XYZ, Vixen, EZO, and Paul Stanley, among others. Through it all, they were never content to follow the trend, always staying true to themselves and delivering vibrant, creative, unpredictable hard rock music.

Charlotte's "Medusa Groove" breathes new life into the music industry by their g
There was an unusually large crowd, which was not out of the ordinary for Charlotte, whom had a knack for
"standing room only" shows and keeping their fans coming back for more.

One particular evening, I walked into the infamous "setting the photograph on fire show", at "The Whisky", in spite of the warnings from the club to the band not to even attempt to do this. And just like Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger, whom themselves received "warnings" of what not to do during a set, lead singer Eric (Ganz) was also obviously unphased or rather, not swayed by anyone's attempts to interfere with the band's show.

Not quite sure whether it was the nefarious tales of "The Whisky"or the presence of the rock and roll greats who have played that very same stage, but there is a tangible "Morrison-escent" quality that inhabited Eric.
The vocals ascended in range far beyond any common expectation. He is not a good singer, He is a great singer.
Overall, the musical cohesiveness from the band holds it's own with some of the best that are already well known household names.

Guitarist's Nick (DiBacco) and Vinnie (Cacciotti), show a decent amount of strong influences, especially DiBacco,
who has a Dicky Betts (The Allman Brothers Band) quality that would show itself as a non-argumentative influence during his bluesy trade-offs with Cacciotti, who carried his own brand of Page-like mystique in his playing.
Chris (Colovas) on bass, and "EDB" (Eric D. Brewton) on drums, both play with a sharp consistency, as if they were like the glue holding together something that was about to go completely over the top, and usually did.

Charlotte does not possess the typical run of the mill "good time- party all night- sleep all day" lyrics that seemed to have placed it's stamp on so many of their peers.
They definitely have something to say.
Eric's no holds bar, take no crap, in your face, vocal style comes with such a perplexity, restiveness and a vengeful
lyrical prowess.

Even during Gun's and Roses hey-day (which Charlotte has been written about in the same genre) I am not sure that Axl (Rose) would have gone to the edge with a song as gritty as "Miss Necrophilia". The title of the song is enough to bring out the "cringe effect", but it taps right into today's most sensationalistic media.
"Sadistic masochistic
Theaters of pain, you better check the ballistics
Suicides, roller-coaster rides at night
Tattoos, anesthetic booze
Political wh**e on the midday news
Get down on your bony knees make me feel alright" (1)

"Ocean And Love and Mercy" begins with haunting vocals and smooth saxophones. "Woman Behind The Eyes" is ablaze of fierce hard licks and vocal conviction, it makes one wonder whom or what this song is about.
Both tracks, reminiscent of the same innovationary vision of Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones by blending the very same sounds when they added the additions of Bobby Keys and the great Billy Preston.

Other standout tracks are "Siren", and "Little Devils", especially if you are fan of Queensrÿche.
"One mind is a world alive
And is mad to be saved
We all need to bleed" (2)

Title track "Medusa Groove", has a harmonizing unison between the vocals and the guitars, bordering on lyrical genius. "Changes" is a bit more mainstream once again giving the listener an unexpected twist of sound, proving that Charlotte have a skill for teetering between the macabre and the ethereal.

If "Charlotte" did indeed rip a page from Jim Morrison, it would be best summed up by Morrison himself.

"I like any reaction I can get with my music. Just anything to get people to think.
I mean if you can get a whole room full of drunk people to actually wake up and think,
you're doing something." (3)

Charlotte can easily move into the ranks of rock and roll's most distinctive sounding bands,
and breathe some new life into the music industry by their genuine intensity of emotion .
Certainly not the same industry that's fueled by some preconceived notion of what music is, should be,
or what "they" think we want it to be, because a panel of judges on a music show says so.

"Medusa Groove" delivers hardcore sound, yet a palatable unpredictability, that clearly shows the diversity that is alive within the courage and firmness of Charlotte's spirit. A steadiness of musical will despite the obstacles that were in their past. If we were to think on the adage that "Lightning doesn't strike twice", then in Charlotte's world, it just doesn't strike in the same place.
Lucky for us, it found it's way to a better place and time.
