Album Notes

Chase Morrin, 15, started composing and playing piano after discovering a toy keyboard at age eight. By age twelve, Chase became the youngest recipient of the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Young Jazz Composer Award and he was recognized again for A Minor Shade of Red in 2009. Chase’s other awards include composition awards from the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) and he was awarded membership in the MTAC Young Composer’s Guild. In 2009, Chase was a Spotlight semi-finalist and was chosen to play piano for the Reno Jazz Festival all star combo. Chase has directed his own bands and performed concerts since age eleven. He currently directs and composes for the Chase Morrin Trio and his quintet, Latin Connection. Chase earned this year’s national DOWN BEAT student music award for outstanding high school performance with three of his compositions and arrangements in the Latin group category. During the summer of 2008, Chase was awarded the prestigious Herb Alpert Scholarship by the faculty of the California State Summer School for the Arts (Innerspark). Chase also directs, conducts, and plays piano for local musical theater groups. Chase and his bands perform around San Diego County.
