Album Notes

A long time ago, deep in the heart of South London, in a block just off Camberwell Green, behind the law courts, Chavo was born. Five years on, they are now regarded as one of London’s best knees up, shebang bands.

They play dance music, European folk dance. Sounds with blinding tempos and driving rhythms, just the kind of music that orders you another drink. Their music tips cap toward the sounds of the Romani musicians of the Balkans, the wedding songs of the Klezmorim and the southern Italian spider bite dances.

Chavo have built a collection of old folk songs from throughout Europe that are woven together with their own music about modern life and their love and hate relationship with London’s streets. Sung in both English and Romani Vlax, there is a joy and celebration that is equally aligned with hardship and loss.
