INTERVIEW
Orenthial Jackson IV (OJ): Chazz, what was the inspiration behind this project?
(CZ): A woman… next question. ( Laughter breaks out as Chazz and J exchange mischievous smiles at my expense.) (OJ): Come on fellas, give me more than that, there's got to be more to it. ("J") Listen man, Chazz was straight to the point… It's about a woman… a Midwestern girl… A windy city woman, it always is for him. (More laughter) ("J") Look, this brother has written about the same woman on just about every song we've done together. In all seriousness, the inspiration for this project as well as many of our previous projects revolve around the true to life issues facing anyone in love. (CZ) Yeah, like I said, a woman… next question. Oh and by the way, ladies and gentlemen of the Grammy association… Thank you for this award… and Windy City lady, I thank you too!! (Laughter is getting a little out of control in here.) (OJ) Ok, so we know the inspiration. Why these songs? I see some classics here; Alfie (from the motion picture), My Funny Valentine, That’s All, and Dry Martini? (CZ) My Funny Valentine was actually recorded after a conversation… with a truly fine woman… who'd shared her sentiments about the song. Alfie… because I always dug it. The only thing is, I always thought the song was about a woman(a female player, didn't see either movie until this year)… So there again, it's about a woman. Dry Martini, is a tune that "J" and I wrote for Little Jimmy Scott the professor of song… But I'm still singing about a woman, the same one too! Haaa! Jimmy I hope you don't mind, I put it on my album first! And That's All... THAT'S ALL, what a song… Brother, I first heard Edie Adams sing this song on the very last episode of the " I love Lucy" show... Knocked me out! I even cover it in the show… Now, next question and ya I'm still thinking about the same woman! As a matter of fact, we're going to have to cut this short… Hey "J", man I got an idea, can we just add one more song to this album? What about doing "You Fascinate Me so? The Cy Coleman / Carolyn Leigh joint? You know the tune he does on Playboy After Dark with Hugh Hefner. ("J") (Loud sigh) Naw man this albums finished! See what I go through with these X%$% singers?! (CZ) Man don't print that! (OJ) Y'all crazy! I can see your crew is biting at the bit to get back into the studio. Listen, does Da'Soul ever take a break? (In unison both answered… Yeah if you can find the twenty-fifth hour… more laughter.) (CZ) In all seriousness, this album is about love OJ… It's what I write about, it's what I sing about… Music is therapy for the soul… LOVE MUSIC… this CD is dedicated to lovers: All who are, all who've tried and all who want. God knows I've been there. So put it on and get it on, tonight and every night. ("J") Ya, man and that's a rap! (CZ) Cut! Kill the camera, check the gate! ("J") AND BUY THE CD! (CZ) Yeah, you heard the boss… BUY THE CD!!

A Stellar Performance
author: Ricardo
As a fan of Chazz Dixon, I can say that this is indeed another stellar performance in regards to vocals, song choice, writing, arranging, and the over all master production of "J". Stand out tracks for me on this are project are Sunny C, Taboo, That's All, and Even Tho' you're Alone. All of the tracks are great but the above listed tracks get played over and over!! This smooth Jazz approach and the mixture of new and classic tracks make for a very winning combination. Oh and what can I say, I had a ball working on You Fascinate Me So and the aforementioned, Even Tho' You're Alone... Thanks for letting me be a part of it!! Your Da' Soul Brother, Ricardo... Three Amigos 4 LIFE!!
