Ms.Berry is listed in over a dozen Whos Who publications, with numerous awards, her work includes many solo recordings, volumes of original compositions, an educational video explaining hammering techniques. Charlene is a teacher of the Hammer Dulcimer, with many students. In her ensemble work, she performs and records with various groups.
Ms. Berry provides an exciting program of Solo Hammer Dulcimer Music: Traditional, Classical Folk, Original Compositions and Inspirational arrangements and imprivisations. She presents: Concerts, Reinactments, Lecture/demonstrations and school programs and workshops, Chartian Concerts. She performs at fairs and festivals, banquest, socials, weddings and other special events, Church functions, Coffeehouses. She writes special compositions for special occassions. "Nine Eleven" is one of her dedicational compositrions.

Great, but I wish it were longer...

I really enjoyed Charlene's serene dedication to the victims of 9/11. She plays the hammered dulcimer unlike anyone I have ever heard. The compositional form is free and improvisatory, eschewing the melodic twists and turns of the (so-called) "Celtic" music that is normally performed on this instrument. It's a long way from Turlough O'Carolan, and I would love to hear a full-length CD of material like this. For now, I will simply repeat the CD four or five times every time I listen to it.

Short, but wonderful

When I think of hammered dulcimer, Celtic
music instantly comes to mind. But you'll find no
rollicking jigs and reels here! This is a purely,
and appropriately, serene improvisatory meditation
in tribute to the victims of September 11th.
Charlene plays the hammered dulcimer
unlike anyone I have ever heard. It is almost
non-Western the way she allows the resonance
of the dulcimer to shimmer and waft in the
air. My only complaint is in regard to the brevity of this
piece -- at only approximately
four minutes it has me wanting forty! The
only alternative, perhaps, is to simply keep
repeating the work over and over again in
the CD player. It certainly merits repetition
and I hope Charlene will continue to create
such ethereal and mystery-laden music.
