Album Notes

'The Cheaters' are a blues-rock based band, based in Newcastle -UK. They have been in existence since 2003 and
have built a strong following in the north of the UK.

The 'Train To Wilderness' album consists of 12 tracks: 10 originals and 2 cover versions; it blends old school blues rock with a contemporary feel. The influences are clear on the album: Free, Faces, Fleetwood Mac, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Howlin' Wolf, Dr John, Thin Lizzy, BB King, Paul Lamb, The Skywalkers, Big Walter Horton, Rory Gallagher, Freddie King, ZZ Top...

The band are a 6 piece band and their musicianship shines on the album. There is some tremendous harmonica playing and the dual guitar work by Scott Henderson and Neil Hall is fantastic. The band have a piano player with real musical caliber: Alan Law, a man who alongside his brothers used to jam with the great Jon Cleary.

The styles on the album include good time rhythm and blues which can be heard on 'Big Hip Girl', 'Come Back Baby' and 'Honeymaker'. This is contrasted to the contemporary guitar based rock on 'Free Wheelin' Man' and 'Train to Wilderness' and there is even 'roots' style music such as 'Voodoo Queen' which could have been recorded in New Orleans. The track 'Spam' is the centerpiece song on the album and clocks in at 7 minutes long. This song has overtones of 'Van Morrison' and 'Love'.

This is a lean album clocking in at just under 45 minutes. 'Blues Matters' magazine describes the band as "original and the music is done with confidence and done well". If you want to try something original, this might be the album for you!

5 Star Album. Some terrific guitar work as well as great harp and vocals. A real grower of an album. It has a mix of classic blues and contemporary rock as in 'Spam', 'Train to Wilderness' and 'Freewheelin' Man'. If you don't dance to 'Come Back Baby' you must be dead! Come on Evans Clothes Shop and pay for 'Big Hip Girl' as a promotional song. Paul Rodgers could do with covering 'Freewheelin' Man' as it sounds like Free. Apparently there next album is going down a harder Free, Thin Lizzy route. I can't wait! Great album and great lads.
