This anointed woman of God is no stranger to the music industry. She comes from a long line of talent in her family. She is the thirteenth child out of eighteen children. Following in the footsteps of her father the late Bishop Tom Johnson (The Johnson Singers), she is now ready to receive her portion. As a native of Carrollton, Michigan, she started singing at the young age of 5. During her teen years, Cherry began traveling with her father's group across the country as the opening act for their shows. She also became very instrumental in her local church choir and groups.
By the early 80's, Cherry was performing under the leadership and direction of the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Being inspired by such gospel greats as Mahalia Jackson, Shirley Caesar, Tramaine Hawkins, Vickie Winans, the Clark Sisters and Witness just to namae a few, she began to develop and her talent one skill at a time. Since then she has advanced in her skills of singing and song writing.
She is presently the First lady and Missionary of the Prayer Garden C. O.G.I.C. where Superintendent Jerry L. Givens (husband) is the Pastor. She is also the mother of 4 beautiful, gifted, and and talented childre, Anna Marie, Tone (Trezure), Jerry Jr., and Ercia Ruth. God and her family are the 2 most important things in her life. her motto that she keeps with her in her everyday journey is "Only what you do for Christ will last."
Cherry's high sopranos and strong vibratos empowered by a sweet anointing, compassed by a structured style of music ranging from contemporary, traditional, praise, worship, hip-hop, a twist of soul flava, followed by a powerful message of hope for a dying world, are sure to touch the hearts and lives of EVERYONE who hears her music.
