Cheryl Bentyne has entertained millions during her tenure as a member of the world renowned jazz vocal group, the Manhattan Transfer, however, lately she has garnered increasing attention and recognition as a solo artist. In this outing she is joined by jazz greats, pianist Kenny Barron, and bassist, Ray Drummond, who give Cheryl intimate and almost telepathic support. Taking gems from the Great American Songbook, Cheryl and her cohorts weave an intricate and beautiful tapestry of sound that invites you to listen with a glass of fine wine, and someone you love!

Wonderfully Sublime
author: Lawrence
Three musicians (Cheryl Bentyne, Kenny Barron, Ray Drummond) create a wonderfully intimate album. Cheryl Bentyne, the grammy award winning soprano with the vocal group, "Manhattan Transfer," is one of today's most overlooked and underrated vocalists... perhaps because she doesn't tour much as a solo performer. But as this collection of songs from the great American songbook proves, she should be hailed as one of the greatest singers of our generation. She possess an amazing range, crystal clear tone, and pure phrasing. Her approach to a lyric is simple, yet somehow she conveys great emotion, with just the slightest inflection or bending of a note. “I Get Along Without You Very Well” and “But Beautiful” or excellent examples of this. She also can swing like nobody’s business and proves with “Thou Swell” and “Stompin’ At The Savoy.” A real gem of a recording.
