"Hodge has a striking voice. Her range
is impressive...."
- Kyle O'Brien, Jazz Society of Oregon
"Her 8ve leaps and pitch-perfect landings
evoke Portland great Nancy King..."
The Oregonian, Lynn Darroch
Hodge's latest CD (Oct. 08 release, "Indigo") includes Cheryl with jazz guitar god, John Stowell; Juno winning trumpet/flugel player Brad Turner, and sax great Tom Colclough. This new CD is a real barnburner; focussing on fusion (not unlike Roy Hargrove's groove.) The songs Indigo, Far and Guide to Recovery are good examples of the NEW Hodge sound. Her original grooves are infectious; but this newest sound dwarfs the others!
With over 20 years of playing jazz & blues with the finest musicians in North America, & Canada, Cheryl Hodge has made her mark as a performer, vocalist, adjudicator, clinician & author. Hodge is a gifted pianist and isn't afraid to visit the outer stretches of "scatting" territory. Her first love, however remains (and most likely forever will be...) composing.
Hodge has co-written & performed alongside: John Stowell (whom she recently co-wrote an album of originals with), Hugh Fraser; and performed with Dee Daniels, & countless others. There are annual tours which include jazz festivals, clinics and club performances. Most recently, Hodge is celebrating the release of a new "best of" compilation of originals; called, "Cheryl Hodge: Original Article", available through CDBaby.com, and her website,
jazzboulevard.com
