organic, truthful, expressive, down-home and strong of spirit
author: The Muse Matrix
This is how I would wish Miss America to be: organic, truthful, expressive, down-home and strong of spirit. Chevrette's new CD "Miss America" rocks your soul as if you have finally got that rare chance to sprawl out in a tall grass prairie, just to gaze at the high open sky. The clouds part and you are transported to a vintage barnyard past a deep forest, where the tribal back country folk live in peace and harmony. This alabaster toned sassy singer, croons of country girl musings, brandy wine wishes and global righteousness. Right in tune with her are virtuoso Ken Burnett on superb mandlin, John Bellizia on brilliant banjo and bluegrass tribal drum beats by Jason Sewell. Their chemistry is in sync and their music is sure to move you from side to side. Is that your heart leaping out of your chest? To be free? To be unseen and jumpin' up omnipresent? That's how this CD strikes you. With the CD's harmonious vocals and wonderful country, bluegrass, and Celtic influences "Miss America" is a festival stomping treat. Again Roberta's spoken word graces the CD with truth and might. Chevrette and her band are truly old souls come back to groove you and your ancestors back to life.

The Sacramento-based feminist folkie strikes again!
author: Community Link Fresno
The Sacramento-based feminist folkie strikes again! Did that get your attention? Listen up! Just look at the pictures from the photoshoot for this release and you will know Roberta likes to have fun. But the first song, "Country Girl", took me by surprise - I half expected to hear about a girl-or boyfriend leaving her and the family dog dying, but I didn't expect these lyrics: "when she tried to kill me on the living room floor/ with a pair of scissors/ in her hand/ she said i'm gonna kill her". Then she lightens up the mood in "Miss America" in which she confesses: "I want to be Miss America (...)/ and sit back quietly/ while others think for me/ i want to be pretty." She can also get serious in spoken word/ beat poetry pieces, such as "Your Words" - a tribute to Ani DiFranco and a commentary on the current administration, and "How Long" - about social issues, including the Iraq war. Musically, she's somewhere in the middle of folk-country-bluegrass-rock - "Bear Tracks" could be an old Dolly Parton song, while "Every Wind" reminds me more of Alanis. On several tracks, she pays homage to aforementioned Ani with her style of singing. Yet she does manage to make it her own, with a certain smirk-laughter and maybe naivete in her sweet voice. Too bad she gave up on the Miss America thing! Then again she's probably better off travelling the country with her guitar, singing her heart out.

a truly extraordinary musician who is not afraid to express her beliefs!
author: Coffeehouse Tour .com
Not one to be intimidated by expressing her beliefs through her music, Roberta Chevrette uses her creative song writing to cover issues such as politics, inner beauty, and the raging war all while mixing it in with a couple of love songs. This one-woman powerhouse backs up her aggressive lyrics with sweet sounding, uplifting vocals that offer comfort through the darkness of the never-ending cavern of bleeding lyrics. This political folk singer sends her listeners into a hypnotic trance with two spoken word pieces full of razor sharp edged words that would get a second glance from even the most dedicated fans to slam poetry goddesses like Alix Olson. Roberta stands on the enemy line and shoots it from the hip with her rapid, feminist gunfire that will send fans of artists like Ani DiFranco and Ember Swift into a mad dash to unleash this extraordinarily talented musician into the mosh pit of women's music today. "Miss America" delivers a hardcore, political punch from a truly, extraordinary musician who is not afraid to express her beliefs. There is no other word to describe this CD except for "Fem-tastic!"
