Album Notes

after the guys had just played a party for former president clinton, he was overheard to say "if i had those guys on my team, i don't think monica could've gotten within 3 feet of me... and that's practically out of range!" a very audible guffaw bellowed forth from the small crowd that had gathered around the punch bowl... which just goes to show you that it is who you know and what you can do for them. richard murrey knows some peeps and can do certain things for them... things that, well, he learned in the service of his country. it has everything to do with playing guitar and writing great songs... which is what he's done on this collection of tunes, so enjoy... that's an order.

"dysfunctional magnet"... the title cut... ever feel like this? everyone drawn to you has problems enough to make dr. phil eat a 12 gauge!

"take me back baby"... oh i'm groveling in the dirt, i'm lower than whale crap... i'm sorry, i won't do it again, promise!

"who's dentures"... love in the retirement community... double wides, bingo and golf carts... they can still get in on.

"86'd"... ballad of how easy it could be to end up in his shoes.

"the rose"... sometimes it's easier to accept the abuse and hide from living... even if true love is sacrificed.

"under every skirt"... middle aged crazy. god's gift to women. the panic side of getting older and losing what you thought you had when you were younger.

"heliumhuff 4-play"... an exercise in goofiness... self-explanatory.

"hey there buddy"... you know better... and your little inside voice is telling you so, but do you listen? nah. you stumble on ever so blindly, knowing you're gonna end up in a world of hurt.

"gummin' the calamari"... no need to stop having fun just because you're older and bodily functions begin to waiver a bit.

"waiting for the light"... a tribute song to my dear friend, kevin mulligan, who left this plane of existence much too early... he's greatly missed.

Another Cerebral Collection of Great Songs!

"Dysfunctional Magnet", mixes more serious lyrical tunes with the tried and true comedy of Ford's other CDs. Part of the record spends time on reviews of old age with tunes like "Gummin the Calamari" and "Whose Dentures". 'Dentures' is finger-pointing at a woman sleeping with old-men for money ('the grocer said you bought some Geritol, a box of Depends, and Ambisol') - and 'Calamari' is about the partying exploits of the home-bound Depends set. Our favorite track and really only because Chevy has put us in the comic musical mood, is the 15 second, 'Heliumhuff 4-Play'. "The Rose" is a musical departure - and more serious lyrics find a home. The music includes a pan flute and moderate paced beautiful bed. Again, the band is as tight as Madonna's bra - and their musicianship and recording is professionally done. Ford's guitar slinging checks in and "Magnet" is another excellent installment in the style of Chevy Ford.
