Album Notes

The Northwest has always existed outside the sphere of traditional music genres. It pisses rain eight months a year but then the other four months, its all fire. It’s an environment where inspiration runs rampant, and music and dope are the staple diet. The debut EP from The Chicharones is jam packed with heat, spice and the smell of beer and sweaty sex, making this album a bona fide barbeque sensation. Containing seven scorching hot radio-ready singles, Boss Hogs is truly that, a salubrious mouthful of tasty goodness, leaving you needing more.

The Chicharones are composed of Vancouver’s Josh Martinez and Sleep from Oldominion, both nineties men, trying to keep it real in these ludicrous times. Featuring production from Oldominion heavyweights Pale Soul, Smoke and Zebulon Dak, this EP ranges in mood, theme, and tempo, but maintains a consistent undeniable heat throughout.

With a heavy emphasis on melody and old fashioned solid songwriting, Sleep and Josh Martinez have created an incredibly cohesive work that features strong lyrics, fluid storytelling and catchy hooks that’ll get stuck in your head like gum on shoes. Unlike most groups, Sleep and Josh blend their vastly different skills together with ease, each pushing the other to raise the bar conceptually, musically and rhythmically. It is a refreshing change to hear a group that actually acts like one, sharing the stage as easily as they share the hot raps.

This record is hot. This record is cracking. This record is sizzling pork fat spiced to perfection. Without a doubt, this record is the answer to all your problems. Before this record you were tired, bored, and a little fat. Now, you are reborn, reinvigorated and restored to your former glory. Get in now. The Chicharones are gonna be the biggest thing since Y2K.
